Lisa Hansen fosters and facilitates Circles of Empathy groups at BYU to help therapists and students alike articulate and appreciate sensitive issues regarding the intersection of spirituality and sexual orientation. She is also a current Ph.D. student at BYU in MFT, with an emphasis on adolescent outcomes. Lisa is an educational speaker on relationships, depression, anxiety and community/family support for marginalized youth and has been featured as the voice of mental health research on Mormon Matters podcasts. She specializes in couple and family distress, including issues of trust, power and emotion in relationships. She sponsors and directs Utah County Men’s Choir, a choir of gay men and their allies. She also maintains a private practice at Provo Center for Couples and Families. Her short story compilation, “Why I Don’t Hide My Freckles Anymore” has just been published by Deseret Book (Feb 2014). Lisa and her husband, Bill, are the parents of seven children and a few extras.
